Is Tajneed too good to be true?
There is a saying “if anything appears too good to be true it probably is”. I get that feeling today about The Great St Wilfred sprint at Ripon today. Over the last few days Dandy Nicholls horse Tajneed has come down in the betting from 9/1 and is likely to go off as favourite at around 3/1.
If you look at it he has a lot going for him, ground that he loves, a course he has run and won at course and distance 3 times before. His trainer is a past master at producing sprinters and he is very favourably drawn. Just to add the icing on the cake, Tom Segal, Pricewise in the Racing Post has tipped him to win. In fact the only thing stopping him being a cast iron certainty is that Barry Dennis Read More…

It’s Friday the 13th- Shall I stay in bed?
If it was not bad enough that it is Friday the 13th today, to have meetings at Newmarket, Newbury and Newcastle all on the same day is going to be confusing. My natural inclination is to pull the bed sheet over my head and stay in bed all day. But needs must when the taxman and the mortgage drive so I suppose I shall have to put the nose to the grindstone once more.
I am going to make a confession to you, but keep it to yourself please. I am a closet Coronation Street watcher and at the moment there is a storyline about the local bookie being swindled out of £4,000. The only thing that seems to surprise me is that there was £4,000 in the shop to pay out the scam bet.

Follow the trends
Back in the dark ages, that is before Betfair and the Internet, whenever a big race was coming up serious punters would spend hours pouring over form books trying to find the winner. These days many have forsaken the form book and look towards Trends as the key to unravelling the big races.
The theory behind Trends is that you are looking for variables which will indicate the profile of the horse most likely to win the race. There are a variety of factors that you might want to take into consideration such as age, past performance, weight and previous races that the horse has run in. In fact it often depends upon the particular race as to which factors are important. For instance, in the Derby age is totally irrelevant as all the runners are 3 year olds.

At least 97 meetings saved
It would appear that despite the BHA’s threat that up to 250 meetings would have to be dropped for next season things are not quite that bad. Due to the fall in Levy income back in June the BHA said they would drop the fixture they owned. However, after representations it now appears that 97 meetings have been saved.
These meeting originally evening fixtures at the all weather tracks are being changed to “Twilight meetings” as this it is felt meets a demand. For sometime betting shops have complained about the time gap between the end of day racing and the first evening race. This has lead to many punters leaving the offices and not coming back. No doubt trainers, jockeys and betting shop staff will appreciate the earlier finish to the racing day.

Horse Racing- Travellers Check
As expected it was announced that Harbinger has, following his injury, been retired to stud. We shall now not have an opportunity to see the world’s top rated horse take on his International rivals. We will now never know whether he was just a really good racehorse or one that deserved a place in the Hall of Fame.
A few weeks ago I was reading a very interesting article in The Betting Schools Insider News Report about the effect of long distance travel on racehorses. The author, Michael Wilding who is the author of the Puntolgy 52 week betting course comes to some interesting conclusions.
He discovered that statistically backing horses that travel between 400 and 450 to a race would based on 2009 results show a profit. I must admit this is interesting but I think it would Read More…
