Professional or Hobbyist?

The question I would like to ask today is do you consider yourself a professional or a hobbyist punter? Before I go any further I should point out that my definition of a professional punter is not necessarily someone who makes his prime living from gambling. In my eyes a professional punter is anyone whose main aim is to consistently make a profit from their activities whether it be full or part time.
A hobbyist is someone who’s prime aim when backing horses is enjoyment. Certainly thy like to win but it is not their prime consideration. A professional will have a betting bank, use some type of system and hopefully maintain accurate records of their progress. A hobbyist will use what spare money they have available, will tend to back on impulse, believe practically everything they read in the racing press and be a fan of multiple bets.
A professional may spend hours finalising their selection a hobbyist rarely spends more than 10 minutes making theirs. As someone who spent many years as a hobbyist punter I know that they are the backbone of the racing industry. Without them the bookmakers would not make their profits so that they can pass on their share of the betting levy to the racing authorities. Because it is a fact that hobbyists lose far more than they ever win unlike the professional who if they cannot generate a regular profit are out of business.
The fact that despite the introduction of gaming machines, virtual racing and other gimmicks into betting shops the mighty William Hill organisation has seen a fall in profits is significant. Does this mean that more punters are adopting a professional approach to their betting? This may be true but also we can’t discount the effects of the Exchanges on the overall market in recent years.
If you want to stop being a hobbyist and join the ranks of the professional the first move should be to visit http://bit.ly/c7Bvng
